NEW FINISH = HIGHER QUALITY AND DURABILITY
Thanks to advancements in technologies, Medeco is now able to adopt an internally applied coating
that, when applied to polished brass, meets the durability of our previous 5E (PVD) finish when
subjected to corrosive salt and UV tests.
Due to this new coating, we are able to discontinue the 5E finish with confidence that our normal '05'
finish will perform to the same standards for our customers. This new finish will be applied to ALL
polished brass product offering superior weather and wear protection. Additionally, lead times for this
more durable finish will be shorter than they were for 5E as it can be applied in-house - now standard
product lead times will apply. Any orders received for 5E finish will be changed to 05 beginning January
1, 2008.
MEDECO DOING THEIR PART FOR THE ENVIRONMENT
We’re all asked to do our part in our personal lives to ‘go green’ and keep the planet healthy.
Corporations also have that responsibility and Medeco takes that seriously. Plating brass, steel, and zinc
within our facility creates potentially dangerous waste water that could not be released into the
environment.
Medeco is one of the first ASSA ABLOY companies in North America to be 100% Hexavalent chrome free.
The switch was made to Trivalent Chrome for internal plating and conversion coating processes.
Medeco has had an 80% reduction in hazardous waste disposal since 2003. A waste-water pretreatment
system was re-deployed from a sister company facility. The new process has allowed Medeco to
convert materials that were previously disposed in potentially hazardous barrels, to a dry powder that is
much smaller, lighter weight, and is less of a risk to the environment.
